Hallowe’en is upon us and my neighbourhood is looking spooky. Kids are giggling up and down the streets and the weather is appalling—rain, sharp winds and wild seas. It doesn’t seem to bother the ghouls and witches as well as characters from TV and movies I’ve never heard of. I dutifully put out my paper bats, cotton ghosts and luminated eyeballs to add to the event. My dog finds the annual trek to my door for treats so exciting she’s beside herself. After the first twenty monsters and elves, she’s less excited and more tolerant.

The manuscript for Bloomsbury to Barkerville: The Life of Florence Wilson is back at the publisher after finding every tiny typo and error in the proofs. There weren’t many. The design of the book is beautiful and elegant. I am so grateful to the team at Heritage House Publishing for the care they take in the presentation of my work. I haven’t seen the cover yet, but I am sure it will be amazing. They are going to add two more maps which will add to the readers’ knowledge of Florence’s life.

Murder in Ashton-on-Tinch is proceeding through the publication process and seems to be on time for a spring release. More on that when I get a definite date. I am looking forward to seeing the cover on that one as well. Camel Press did such a good job on the cover of Murder in Vancouver 1886 I’m looking forward to seeing what they do with this one.

Of course, I’m working on another manuscript as well. The draft of Murder in Flannigan Lake has been out to my two regular readers but now is out to a group of six community health nurses who will let me know if I’ve made any mistakes or left out some program that my protagonist should have known about. I find the thought of meeting with them exciting as I not only will get expert opinion on the facts in my book, but I’ll be meeting with nurses, which will be a treat.

I enjoyed a visit with a West Kelowna Book Club on Zoom. The members had all read Always Pack a Candle and were full of questions. What a great group!

Our paddling crew has been confined to shore the last few weeks. The winds are something else.

All the best,

Marion
