Obviously, my life is not all work.

It’s exciting to find two of my books in contention for a prize. We will here the announcement of winner sat the August 22-24th Arts and Words Festival in Gibsons. There are some excellent books in the running.

I have to wait until September 21st to find out who won the BC and Yukon Book Prizes, the Bill Duthie Booksellers Award. I think I’m happier knowing I might get a prize than knowing who did get the prize.

July is the time for visitors. My granddaughter came for a little over two weeks. She and I and Carly went on a Road Trip. (Capital letters because it was a great adventure). Then my grandson and his family came for a few days. It was lovely to see family. I live near the beach so entertainment takes care of itself. I do need to take holidays and visitors make that happen.

Now I have a deadline for Bloomsbury to Barkerville: The Life of Florence Wilson. It has been edited and I need to accept or change the edits. I have had a great time considering the editor’s suggestions. She is almost always right., so the book is better for her eagle eye. I admit, though, I wrestle with the research citations. I loath citations. I learned APA and MLA but the House style if Chicago Manual of Style, so the pesky periods, commas, italics or no italics, and correct URLs have to correct. It takes hours. I’d rather write an additional chapter than deal with the reference section. But I must. Please appreciate that material at the end of the book when you get it in your hands next spring.

The minute the Florence Wilson book is finished, I get the edited version of Murder in the Village: The British Book Tour Mysteries Book 7. There is no reference section in that book so I will enjoy responding to the editor’s suggestions. I haven’t worked on it myself for a few months, so I will have a fresh eye.

Lots of work ahead, but I am having friends of mine come to stay for a few days and plan some time off.  It’s summer, after all.
