Yes, of course, I put a body there.
Danger in Edinburgh hopped off for a fortnight tour of North America. It was a mix of reviews, guest blogs and character blogs—a short piece written by one of the characters in the novel. I enjoyed writing those, It was as if the character got a chance to interact with readers:
Jaswinder Patal the landlady of The Royal Stuart in https://thebookdivasreads.com/
and
Dr. Isobel Ferguson, a Texan psychologist, in The Editing Pen Danger in Edinburgh by Emma Dakin : (theeditingpen.com)
Now those two have entirely different dialect.
I finished the edits on Book 5 of the series Shadows in Sussex which will be released in 2023. No date yet. All the readers and editors believe it’s the best book yet so that’s encouraging. There is a lot of my own passion in it, writing about things I care about. Perhaps that’s what gives it its spark.
I took a two-day holiday and skipped over to Victoria to visit with friends and family, then back home to entertain Covid for a week. Now that’s a nasty visitor. Back to work. It’s time to get onto the next book.
I have been mulling over the villain. Villains are difficult because we contrive as much as possible to avoid evil people in our own lives, so who do we know who shows signs of evil? Who can we study to truly understand such a character? Villains live by their own logic, but they have a logic and a philosophy. I will be immersing myself in that character this week.
Dec 3rd at 2 pm is the launch of Danger in Edinburgh at the Sechelt library. I plan to bring a Victoria Sponge cake, maybe two of them, and serve tea as well as read from the book. This time, Winona Kent, author of the Jason Davey Mysteries will talk about her latest in the series Ticket to Ride. Nona is an Indie publisher for this series and will be a fascinating source of information for the many writers who work on the Sunshine Coast. You can come in on Zoom from anywhere so our friends and readers in all parts of Canada and the US can attend.

It should be fun.
I am trying to plan a research trip to the Cariboo for early march. I know there is likely to be snow and ice on the lake but it will be good to get back to the town. I need to visit the museum archives and visit with people who remember the days I’m writing about. I’m getting get quite excited about it. Days doing nothing but research: reading, checking out sources, talking to old friends and new informants. Lovely. Patricia Moyes said “Research is endlessly beguiling; it’s the writing that’s work.” I research as much and as long as I can afford to. Such a pleasure.
